Forensic Light Sources are welll known for their ability to make visible small amounts of material often known as trace evidence and fingerprints in crime scenes, as well as being useful in the lab to examine evidence and show everything from hairs and fibers to latent fingerprints, bodily fluid, and drug traces. Now this technology is available in a highly portable tool that lends itself to quick presumptive examinations for drug traces, gun shot residue. and subcutaneous bruising. An officer on the street, responding to a DV call, or stopping a car can quickly see if there is any reason to look further into the situation. One handed, he can switch from white light for overall examination to 522, 450, 0r 370 NM (UV) illumination that will cause a visual reaction in many substances including some trace drug evidence, all keeping one hand free for his own safety.

While not an absolute identifier of these substances, since it is a presumptive test (as is more expensive the Raman Spectroscopy technology often used) it does allow the officer to form articulable suspicion, based on his own observations of the situation at hand.

This light source is also a useful tool for the crime scene investigator, providing three commonly used and very powerful wavelengths in an ultra-portable single hand use unit suitable for searching and photography.
